Abstract
The main objective of this work is to study the heart and carotid arteries sonographically In patients with cerebral stroke and correlate both parameters with the clinical spectrum of those patients as well as with other investigations including ECG and CT brain. The material of the present study comprised 136 patients suffering from acute cerebrovascular stroke. The cases were randomly chosen from patients admitted to Internal Medicine and Neurology Departmcnts of Mansoura University Hospital. All patients were subjected to the following :- I) Medical evaluation including history taking and medical examination. 2) Investigations: Including Cl’ head scan, ECG, echocardiography, duplex carotid sonography and laboratory investigations as serum creatinine, lipid profile, complete blood picture, liver function tests and fasting anJ 2 hours post prandial blood sugar. - The study revealed that the peak incidence of stroke occurs between 52-67 years and it was greater in men than women . - Also, the present work found that, the prevalence of the well known risk factors in cerebral stroke were hypertension (49.3%), smoking (42.6%) and diabetes (12.5%).
