Abstract Although tuberculosis is a treatable and curable disease, it proved to be resistant,to elimination from Egypt, this is due to the increasing number of drug-resistant cases The present work aiming to study the incidence of primary and acquired drug resistant tuberculosis in Dakahlia governorate and the state of virulence amonge cases of tuberculosis conducted This study was conducted on 50 tuberculosis cases ,17 cases with on previous chemotherapy (3 cases were excluded as their primary cultures were negative). Sensitivity tests were performed on Positive cultures to 8 drugs (Isoniazid, Rifampicin, StreptomYcin, Ethambutol, Pyrazinamide, Para amino saficylic acid, Ethionamid and Thiacetazone The overall primary drug resistance was 41.17% out of 17 cases. Primary resistance to one drug was 11.76%, to more than one drug (multiple drug resistance. ) was 29.41 % The incidence of primary resistance to two drugs was 17,65%, to 3 drugs was 5.88%, to 4 drugs 5.88% The incidence of individual primary drug resistance was 5.88% to isoniazid, 0% to rifampicin, 17.65% to streptomycin, 17.65% to ethambutol, 11.76% to pyrazinamide, 11.76% to para amino salicylic acid, 5.88% to ethionamide, 23,53% to thiacetazone. |
