Abstract
The presen work was carried out to investigate the effect of so no of ho cuniiion anaesthotics on carbohydrat’ tain aspects of carbohydrate metabolism namely lactate and pyruvate formation under both general -and sVinal anaesthesia (A) The e-meriments on man were carried out on -patients admitted to El Mansoura University Hospital to be operated upon for various surgical intepventions. The patients were chosen at random and ~ust before induction of ajaaesthesia blood sa:cfrplos were taken and the lactate and pyruvate contenue in the sample were estimated. During aiaosthesia other blood samples were taken ahalf hourly intervals and the lactate and. pyruvato content in the saxaoles were estimated. By coLkT)aeinP the values obtained for lactate and pyruvate before and after anaesthesia it was clear that there is accumulation. o-L lactato but nob pyruvate under general anaesthesia. The degree of accumulation of lactate varied under the different types of the inhalational anaesthetics.
