The file’s of these patients were reviewed for the phys- ical state of patients and laboratory investigations that were done to these patients preoperatively. Estimation of the incidence of preoperative medical problems, correlation bet- ween clinical and laboratory data and impact of these on tim-ing of the operation all were recorded . It has been found that the common preoperative medical abnormalities were hepatic (28.7%) cardiovascular (22.8%),, anaemia (13.9 *1) and res’piratory (11.9%).37.9% of patients with hepatic abnormalities were dia-gnosed through abnormal liver functions without clinical abno-rmalities and although operations were postponed in 2 patientsof these patients and the rest of patients were operated upon without delay, only one patient developed mild elevated bilir-ubin postoperatively In 23 patients with preoperative abnormal cardiovascular findings, arrhythmias were the most common finding (56.5 o’) followed by hypertension (17 4’’) and ischaemic heart diseases (8.7%).
