Abstract This study has been planned to evaluate the accuracy of pulse oximetry in geriatric patients. Thirty patients were included in this study, all pati ents were premedi cated by 10 mg di azepam orally night before and at morning of surgery. All patients were given a low spinal anaesthesia. Oxygen saturation was measured invasively by ABL Radiometer 510 and non invasively by pulse oximetry device (Plethsymographic Module MI020A of Hewlett-Packard 665). Pulse rate, non invasive blood pressure and core body temperature are measured simultaneously at the same intervals as oxygen saturation Sa02, Sp02 using Hewlett-Packard monitoring system. In conclusion, the resul ts of this study indicated, First: that oxygen saturati on measurements by di gi tal pul se oximeter used in this study was accurate and preci se compared to our reference (Radi ometer 510) six wavelength invitro co-oximeter, Secand: age by itself has no dramatic negative effect on the oxygen saturation and third: there is no significant correlation between (Sa02-Sp02) difference, haemodynamic variables and core body temperature changes. |
