Abstract

Three IBD¬ intermediate plus vaccines were used to evaluate the immunosuppressive effects of Gumboro vaccine on chickens. Criteria were chosen to considered two important feature of poultry production, those of economical significance & those of immunological impact. Parameters related to economical production include body weight. On the other hand, immunosuppression was measured by antibody ( HI titers ) to ND¬vaccinal application, protection to challenge with very virulent Newcastle disease virus & relative organ weights of bursa of Fabricius & spleen and the histopathological changes in bursa of Fabricius. A summary of the main findings are as follows:¬ 1¬ Broiler performance as judged by body weight was not poorly affected by the IBD¬intermediate plus vaccines. 2¬ Bursa of Fabricius were adversely affected as judged by relative organ weight & histopathological bases by IBD¬intermediate plus vaccines. 3¬ Spleen relative organ weight does not adversely affected by IBD¬intermediate plus vaccines. 4¬ Humoral antibody response to ND¬vaccination and protection against challenge with VVND were adversely affected by the IBD¬intermediate plus vaccines. Adverse effect of IBD vaccine variable with different IBD¬vaccines & intervals post IBD vaccination. 5¬ Maternally derived antibodies to IBD were found to be protective to the used progeny up to the 11th day of chicken life. 6¬ ELISA ( Synobiotic ) antibody response to IBD¬intermediate plus vaccines were found to be protective from week 2 up to week 5 post vaccination.
