Abstract

The thesis is divided into six parts: Part I. This part presents a general introduction about H2blockers, as well as a literature review about the published analytical procedures for their analysis. Part II.: This part is devoted to the development of new kinetic spectrophotometric methods for the analysis of the studied drugs. This part is subdivided into: Part II.A. a kinetic spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of the studied H2blockers based on their catalytic effect on the reaction between sodium azide and iodine in an aqueous solution. Part II.B. This section provides a spectrophotometric and kinetic method for the determination of the studied drugs using potassium permanganate. Part III.: This part is devoted to the development of new spectrophotometric methods for the analysis of the studied drugs. This part is subdivided into: Part III.A. a stabilityindicating spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of the nizatidine based on its reaction with sodium pentacyanonitrosyl Iron. Part III.B: Two spectrophotometric methods involve the oxidation of these drugs with either potassium iodate or sodium periodate in acid medium with the liberation of iodine. Part IV.: This part describes the utility of pchloranilic acid (p CA) and 2,3,dichloro5,6dicyanopbenzoquinone (DDQ) for the sensitive and rapid spectrophotometric determination of the nizatidine and ranitidine in raw material and in certain dosage forms. Part V.: Part V.A.: an indirect spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of the studied drugs based on their reaction with Iron (III) and either tris ((Sr(Bphenanthroline) or tris (bipyridyl). Part V.B.: This section describes the development of a sensitive, rapid and stabilityindicating polarographic method for the determination of famotidine in raw material and in certain dosage forms. Part VI.: This part describes the reagents, materials and instruments that were used along this study.
