Abstract

Cuttings of 20-25 cm of F. retusa, F. infecturia and F. religiosa were taken from trees grown at Mansoura University in March 1998-1999, as middle portion cutting of branches. To study the propagation of some ornamental trees (e.g. Ficus), improving the economics of production of ficus by reduced production costs and increased quality consistence by using vegetative propagation (woody cuttings). This method makes feasible high-density, planted many thousands to a hectare. The data were statistically analyzed using the method described by to determine the significance magnitude among various treatments. The experiment has 9 treatments as followed:- 1.Control (distilled water).2. Control (with hydrogel). 3. charged – hydrogel (carried out with IBA 1000 mg/L). 4. Solution of IBA (100mg/L). 5. Solution of IBA (100mg/L) + hydrogel. 6. Impregnated toothpicks (with IBA 1000 mg/L). 7. Impregnated toothpicks (with IBA 1000 mg/L) + hydrogel. 8 . Powder of IBA (1000 mg/L). + Hydrogel. 9. Powder of IBA (1000 mg/L). The treated cuttings were propagated into sand (with or without polymer) in 20 cm pots. Each pot contained 4 cuttings, each treatment replicated 5 times (under mist and without mist). Three months after planting, data were recorded including: rooting percentage, survival percentage ,rooting rates, roots number, roots length, roots fresh weight, roots dry weight, No. of new shoots, shoots number, shoots length, No. of leaves, leaves fresh weight, leaves dry weigh and leaf area (cm2) (in the second season only).
