Abstract

Summary and Conclusion Summary and Conclusion Gingival overgrowth is an extensive problem in kidney transplanted patients who are receiving cyclosporine - A to prevent graft rejection.
where gingival overgrowth is associated with important functional and I or esthetic effects, surgical treatment is possible, but it is frequently followed by recurrence after few months.
The delayed wound healing and the possibility of post operative infection in these immunosuppressed patients has simulated the search for a more safe alternative therapy specially that this group of patients cannot spare the use of cyclosporine-A. Therefore the alternative therapeutic approach is either systemic or locally applied antimicrobial agents.
In the present study, the metrondiazole 25% dental jel and minocycline 2% dental ointment had been tried by topically application for management of gingival overgrowth in forty five renal transplanted patient by split mouth design.
These patients had categorized into three groups with fifteen patient each.
All the patients of the three groups had received full mouth scaling and root planning and given instructions for regular and proper oral home care.
The patients of the first group had received three subgingival metronidazole 25% jel applications - at the right sides only - once weekly. Whileas the patients of the second group 99.
