Abstract

The process of splitting up a slab-and-beam system into individual slabs and nondeflecting beams Yields the same one- or two-way action for the slab and the same load dispersion diagram (triangles and trapezoids) for any beam whatever the beam-to-slab stiffness ratio is.
For instance, studies on slab-and-beam systems have shown, depending on the beam-to-slab stiffness ratio but without developing any T-beam effect at all (the beam and s lab centroids coincide while in reality they do not), that actual distributions of the load that the beam receives arc remarkably different from triangles and trapezoids . This thesis preset well (both qualitatively and quantitatively) the Interaction of reinforced concrete floor slabs and beams in slab-and-beam systems under uniform loads. Single and continues panel floor slabs with different layouts, geometers and panel aspect ratios have been modeled and linear finite element analyses have been performed. Care is drawn somewhat to the geometric nonlinear analysis. The beam-to-slab stiffness ratio, the T-beam (membrane) action, edge conditions and continuity effects have been taken into account and comer effects included implicitly Remarkably different moments on the slab and load dispersion diagrams for beams are obtained and discussed in light of the findings of the Egyptian Code.
