Abstract
The present work aims at the study of the distribution and activity of the keratinophilic fungi in Damietta soils, as well as an evaluation of the most active isolated keratinophilic fungus and the conditions favourable for its keratinolytic enzyme production and activity. Twenty four species - belonging to twelve genera - were isolated as keratinophilic fungi; these are : Chaetomium sp., Aspergillus niger, A. terreus, A. carneus, A. ochraceus, A. flavus, A. sydowii, A. flavipes, A. candidus, Penicillium corylophilum, P. notatum, P. janthinellum.
