Abstract The detection of personal identity, whether living or dead, is very essential, not only for the maintenance of human civilization but also for solving many crimes and medico legal cases. Fingerprints are the most frequently employed for this purpose. The uniqueness and persistence of fingerprints make them the cornerstones of anthropology, genetics, and forensic science. They are one of the most truthful methods of forensic identification. Many shreds of evidence can be collected from the crime scene, such as fingerprints, footprints, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), blood, hair, fibers, and handwriting. However, fingerprints are considered the most valuable piece of evidence for criminal investigations. |
