Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the predictive value of EEG in:
 Control of epilepsy during treatment.
 Relapse of epilepsy after withdrawal of antiepileptic drugs.
This study involved 120 patients with generalized epilepsy divided into 4 groups.
group 1: Epileptic patients under treatment and controlled.
group 2: Epileptic patients under treatment but not controlled.
group 3: Epileptic patients after withdrawal and no relapse.
group 4: Epileptic patients after withdrawal and relapse.
Patients were diagnosed as generalized epilepsy based on the criteria of
ILAE (2017).
All patients were subjected to the following:
*Full history taking,
*Clinical examination.
* EEG
*Neuroimaging ( MRI ).
Summary &Conclusion
63
The results showed the following:
• There was a highly significant association between EEG abnormalities and
uncontrolled epilepsy.
• There was a highly significant relationship between structural lesions by
neuroimaging and relapsed epilepsy.
• There was a difference regarding patients with psychiatric disorder and
relapsed epilepsy.
• There was non difference among studied groups regarding IQ and
controlling of epilepsy.
CONCLUSION:
 EEG is an inexpensive, non-invasive, simple, portable, and potentially
useful tool for diagnosis and prognosis and early recognition of seizures.
 Structural abnormality by neuroimaging predict poor response to treatment.
 Many factors can predict seizures control such as clinical types, response to
one drug, age of onset, and presence of psychiatric disorders.
