Abstract

This thesis addresses the rising challenge of climate change by focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector, particularly in aviation. Aviation stands out as a significant contributor among various modes of transportation, necessitating the electrification of aircraft to mitigate its environmental impact. The thesis proposes a novel, cost-effective IoT infrastructure designed to enhance the integration of advanced technologies within all-electric aircraft (AEA), aiming to mitigate the environmental impact of air travel. The infrastructure includes a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) designed based on microcontroller technology and equipped with versatile field interfaces and Wi-Fi connectivity. This design facilitates the seamless integration of remote and isolated systems like aircraft into a comprehensive IoT ecosystem, enhancing their operational capabilities.
