المستخلص

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a chronic hyperglycemic condition resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action or both.
Muskmelon Cucumis melo L. variety of melon has high economic value because its production has been promoted in many regions Musk melon (Cucumis melo L .) seeds are obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture and dried in the sun, then milled ,which stored in refrigerator at 4O C
This study aimed to investigate the effect of powder musk melon seeds (Cucumis melo L.) In hyperglycemic rats.
The current study was performed on a total of thirty adult male albino rats, average body weight (120±110 g). The rats were housed into 5groups each of 6 rats. One group was kept as a control negative (-ve) group which fed on standard diet, this group was further divided into following groups:
• group (1): control negative group (-), in which normal rats fed on basal diet. (6 rats )
• group (2): control positive group (+), in which rats were fed on basal diet and injected with alloxan. (6 rats )
• (group (3): Rats fed with 2.5% of Cucumis melo L. powder. (6 rats )
• group (4): Rats fed with 5% of Cucumis melo L. powder.(6 rats )
• group (5): Rats fed with 7.5% of Cucumis melo L. powder. (6 rats )

At the end of experimental (28 days) the following was done:
• Rats were weighted, and then body weight gain and feed efficiency ratio were calculated.
• Blood samples were collected after 12 hours fasting then centrifuged to separate the serum which used for the following:
- Glucose levels and kidney function (urea, creatinine and uric acid).
- Liver functions (AST, ALT, ALP).
- Lipid profile (triglyceride- total cholesterol-LDL-c – HDL-c – VLDL-c).
1. The organs: Heart, Kidney, Liver, lungs, spleen were removed, cleaned and weighted .Liver, kidney were stored in 10 % formalin solution for histopathological examination.
The results showed that:
Chemical composition:
The Chemical composition of Cucumis melo L. The obtained results illustrated that the moisture content, total protein, crude fat, crude fiber, ash and total carbohydrate content were 6.56, 10.45, 36.4, 20.56, 1.08 and 24.23 gm.
Phenolic compounds by HPLC:
Cucumis melo L. seeds analyzed by HPLC to evaluation phenolic compounds results were Gallic acid (37.06 µg/g), Chlorogenic acid (14.06 µg/g), Coffeic acid (2.00µg/g), Vanillin (4.38µg/g) and Cinnamic acid (3.45µg/g) were the main bioactive compounds found in the seeds (Table 2).

Biological results
The effect of experimental diet on BwG, FI, FER:
There were significant decreases in BWG , FI, FER of hyperglycemic rats, while there were significant increases in BWG, FI and FER of all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets compared to control (+).
The best effect on BWG, FI and FER showed by hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L. powder 7.5%, when compared to control (+) group.
2. The effect of experimental diet organs weight:
There were significant decreases in kidney , liver, lungs, spleen, and heart weight of hyperglycemic rats, while there were significant increases in organs weight of all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets as compared to control (+) group.
The best effect on kidney, liver, lungs, spleen, and heart weight recorded for hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L powder 7.5 % , when compared to control (+) group.
3. The effect of experimental diet on serum levels of glucose:
Glucose levels in hyperglycemic rats significantly increased, while glucose in all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets significantly decreased as compared to control(+) group, and the best effect on glucose level by hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo l powder 7.5% , when compared to control (+) group.

4. The effect of experimental diet on kidney functions.
There were significant increases in urea, creatinine and uric acid levels in hyperglycemic rats, while there were significant decreases in urea, creatinine and uric acid levels of all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets as compared to control (+) group, The best effect on urea, creatinine and uric acid levels recorded for hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L powder 7.5%, when compared to control (+) group.
5. The effect experimental diet on liver functions:
The results revealed significant increases in serum AST , ALTand ALP levels in hyperglycemic rats while there were significant decreases in serum AST,ALT and ALP levels of all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets as compared to control (+) group.
The best effect on serum AST, ALT and ALP levels recorded for hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L powder 7.5 % , when compared to control (+) group.
6. The effect experimental diet on lipid profile.
The results showed significant increases in total cholesterol, LDL-c, VLDL-c, HDL-c and triglyceride levels in hyperglycemic rats while there were significant decreases in serum total cholesterol, LDL-c, VLDL-c, HDL-c and triglyceride in all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets as compared to control (+) .
There was a significant decrease in HDL-c levels in hyperglycemic rats fed while HDL-c levels significantly increased in all hyperglycemic rats fed on various diets as compared to control (+) group.
The best effect on total cholesterol, LDL-c, VLDL-c, HDL-c and triglyceride levels recorded for hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L powder 7.5 % ,when compared to control (+) group.
Histopathological results
The histopathological results of liver , kidney of all rats intoxicated with alloxane fed on various diets showed an improvement of structure changed by hyperglycemic as compared to control (+) , especially for hyperglycemic rats fed on Cucumis melo L powder 7.5 % .
