Abstract

This cross-sectional study was conducted in Chest and Cardiology departments, Faculty of medicine, Tanta University, and was completed from November 2021 to November 2023. The study aimed to evaluate the correlation between OSA, cardiac function assessed by echocardiographic findings and NT-pro BNP, CRP, D-dimer levels as a tool of early diagnosis of any cardiological dysfunction in moderate and severe OSA patients, and role of CPAP treatment in improving cardiac function, and carried out on 115 patients with suspected symptoms for OSA by history, sleep disorders questionnaires, all of them underwent diagnostic PSG, 30 patients out of them were excluded as they didn’t fulfill inclusion criteria (AHI ≥15/h), 14 patients refused CPAP therapy, 26 OSA patients were excluded after TTE (normal one, valvular lesions), and 4 patients lost follow up. The remaining 41 newly diagnosed OSA patients with echocardiographic dysfunction confirmed by TTE, and then were classified according to AHI into two groups: - group I: included 15 patients (36.6%) with moderate AHI 23.32±3.22/h - group II: included 26 patients (63.4%) with severe AHI 46.62±5.63/h. Inclusion criteria 1. Ages Eligible for study: 18 years and older. 2. Newly diagnosed Moderate to severe OSA patients with apnea hypopnea index (AHI) ≥ 15 per hour in polysomnography and cardiological dysfunction assessed by TTE.
