Abstract More people are diagnosed with low vision every year. The majority of those are elderly people. However, children and young people are also diagnosed with low vision. Retinal dystrophies and optic nerve diseases are the major causes of low vision in developed countries while congenital cataract, and retinopathy of prematurity come on the top list of low vision causes in developing countries. When regular refractive correction, medications and surgeries can’t further improve the patient’s vision, low vision clinical services can help. These clinical services aim to maximise the patient’s use of the residual vision they have and modify their environment to make it easier for them to live independently and participate in everyday life activities. |
