Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the 2019 and 2020 seasons to investigate the influence of different rates of nitrogen fertilizer (50, 75 and 100% of recommended nitrogen rate) and weed management treatments (Amex as pre-emergence herbicide, Amex + hoeing once at 30 days after planting, hand hoeing thrice and un-weeded treatment) under different planting methods, i.e., lines planting width 60 cm and beds planting width 90 and 120 cm, on weeds density, yield and yield attributes of cotton cultivar Giza 90. Results indicated that, planting methods had a significant effect in most studied traits. In the two growing seasons, weight of studied weeds, cotton yield and its components as vegetative, Earliness, seed, lint and fruiting characteristics were significantly affected by all planting methods studied, and the results were in favor of planting in beds of 120 cm width. The maximum weeds management, cotton yield and cotton yield components were obtained from performing hand hoeing thrice compared to other methods of weeds control. Reducing nitrogen fertilizer rate below the recommended nitrogen rate resulted in decreasing the weeds weight, but was not beneficial to cotton yield and component characteristics. The variables under study did not show any marked effect on all studied traits of fiber.
