Abstract

Objective: To measure the maternal serum cell free fetal DNA and establish the relationship between maternal serum cell free fetal DNA levels and preeclampsia.
Study design: A nested case-control study was conducted on 30 patients with PE and 30 matched controls primigravidas in 10-20 weeks gestation recruited from Ain-Shams University Maternity Hospital.
Results: The study showed a statistically significant increase median of preeclampsia compared to and control group according to cff-DNA (GE/ml). Also, the study results revealed a significant difference in CFFDNA level between the groups, patients with maternal and fetal complication having higher levels than those without.
Conclusion In conclusion, total cell free DNA in the first trimester is not associated with the subsequent development of preeclampsia. Total cell free DNA in the first trimester is increased with increasing BMI and in African American and Hispanic women compared to Caucasians. These relationships need to be considered when using assays of cell free DNA during pregnancy.
