Abstract

Part I: Introduction and the Aim of Work: In this part, there is a general introduction about water pollution and different types of pollutants such as heavy metal ions(HMIs), which harm the human body. It also includes the aim of the work.Part II Literature Survey.: In this part, the importance and the main advantages of voltam-metric techniques were included such as CV, EIS, and DPASV as a useful method for the de-termination of these pollutants as UO22+, Hg2+, and Cd2+. In addition, the characterization of CPE and its advantages of the modification with modifier materials such as multi-walled car-bon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS2) and their its effect on the efficiency to enhance the conductivity of CPE.Part III: ExperimentalThis part includes the source of different chemical reagents and instruments apparatus stated. The-se instruments were employed for the investigation of the as-prepared materials, which were used in the modification of the carbon paste electrode(CPE). These modifier materials are described by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffrac-tion, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. Furthermore, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes(O-MWCNTs), amine-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MT/MWCNTs), thiol–modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes(AT/MWCNTs), molybdenum disulfide nanosheets (MoS2), and MoS2@O-MWCNTs nanocomposite were prepared. Finally, the as-prepared materi-als were used as a modifier material in the preparation of modified CPE.Part IV: Results and DiscussionThe results showed the applicability of modified MT/O-MWCNT@CPE to detect uranyl ions and MoS2@O-MWCNT/CPE to detect mercury and cadmium ions in the real water samples with high selectivity, sensitivity, limit of detection, and limit of quantification, which reveals the applicabil-ity of the modified CPE to detect these ions in different environmental water samples.
