Abstract

One of the most important components of life on Earth is water, which is also vital to the advancement of social and economic systems worldwide as it is required for several industrial processes that increase productivity. It serves as a universal solvent since so many organic and inorganic contaminants dissolve in it. And owing to the worldwide industrialization that has grown at a rapid pace, contaminating water resources, particularly with phenolic pollutants that pose a risk to aquatic systems and human health. So, the development of this inexpensive magnetic composite offers a viable technique for eliminating phenolic contaminants from water sources. In this thesis, a composite was formed by combination of petcoke and nonyl chitosan. Firstly, Chitosan which is an abounding natural resource that exhibits advantageous qualities such hydrophilicity, environmentally friendly, biocompatibility, biodegradability, lack of toxicity. In this thesis: Firstly, Chitosan was chemically modified by converting it to nonanyl chitosan to increase the hydrophopcity of chitosan to attract hydrocarbons more. Secondly, Petcoke that was produced from the delayed Coker unit in MIDOR refinery which was subjected to physical and chemical modification offers large surface and large structure,.
