Abstract

A total of 305 Mugil spp. (70 Mugil cephalus, 75 Liza carniata, 80
Mugil capito and 80 Liza aurata) were collected randomly and
seasonally from lake Timsah at Ismailia governorate from July 2021
till June 2022. They were collected to detect the most prevalent
disease problems affecting them. Fish were infected with two Gramnegative bacteria (Vibrio alginolyticus and Enterbactar cloacae) and
crustacean parasites (isopods; Renocila sp., Nerocila bivittate and
Livoneca redmanii) and copepods; Caligus minimus and
Lernanthropus kroyeri). The clinical picture and the
histopathological alterations were detected. The total prevalence of
parasitic infestations was 42%; the highest for Mugil capito (60%)
and the lowest for Mugil cephalus (17.1%). The highest prevalence
of bacterial infection was detected in M.capito (67.5%) and the
lowest was in Liza carinata (9.3%). The highest intensity was in
liver (34.02, 42.3%) while the lowest was in spleen (16.49 and
15.3%) for V. alginolyticus and E. cloacae, respectively. A
molecular investigation using PCR for Vibrio alginolyticus was done
to confirm its isolation. An experimental trial for T.zillii with the
isolated Enterobacter cloacae was also done to confirm the virulence
of it using concentrations of (108
,107
.106
,105 CFU ml-1
). Mortality
rates, clinical picture and histopathological lesions of the
experimentally infected fish were also done.
