Abstract

Lung cancer is the illness that arises from uncontrolled cell division in the lungs. Uncontrolled cell division caused by damage results in tissue lumps known as tumors that eventually impair the functionality of the organ. Lung cancer is typically found in the alveoli, which are tiny air sacs, or the bronchi or bronchioles. It remains the leading cause of cancer mortality in men and women worldwide. About 90% of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking and the use of tobacco products it estimated 2.1 million new cases of lung cancer diagnosed worldwide, or 11.4% of all cancer cases. One of the most popular treatment modalities for cancer is chemotherapy; yet, drug resistance has emerged as a significant barrier to cancer treatment. In order to treat most malignancies, combination chemotherapy is preferred over treatment with single medicines because it simultaneously targets several cell-survival pathways and postpones the establishment of resistance.
