Abstract

Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as atopic eczema, is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin condition.. IL-37 has been identified as fundamental inhibitor of innate immunity and a suppressor of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-17, IL-23, and TNF-α, and IFN-γ.
The aim of the present study was to assess the alteration of serum level of IL-37 in AD patients which may further clarify the immune pathogenesis and improve the management of this common important skin disease.
This study is a case control study, That was carried in Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of Suez Canal University Hospitals, Ismailia, and included 2 groups: (First group); included patients who had atopic dermatitis, (Second group); included healthy age and gender matched controls without any family history or previous history of clinical atopy symptoms. Severity of AD was evaluated using SCORAD. Blood samples were examined to detect: CBC with differential, serum IgE and serum concentrations of IL-37 via ELISA kits for quantitative analysis of IL-37.
In this study, most of the patients (92.5%) had sever AD, 7.5% of the patientshad moderate AD. Serum levels of IL37 were significantly higher in AD patients than in healthy controls, and this level correlated positively with each of SCORAD and IgE and correlated negatively with patients’ age and age of disease onset.
