Abstract

Pneumonia, a severe respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has significantly impacted healthcare systems worldwide. Accurate and early detection of COVID-19 pneumonia is crucial for effective patient management and preventing further transmission. LDCT scanning has been shown to be a promising approach to improve diagnosis efficacy. CT scans provide detailed insights into the extent and severity of lung damage caused by viral infections, enhancing the overall diagnostic accuracy.
Advantages of LDCT for accurate diagnosis include increased sensitivity, rapid diagnosis, enhanced prognosis, reduced transmission risk, and complementing PCR. CT scans can detect subtle lung abnormalities, even in patients with mild symptoms or atypical presentations, and provide quick results, offering a time advantage over PCR tests. However, challenges such as radiation exposure and resource availability necessitate careful consideration.
In conclusion, LDCT scanning offers several benefits in early detection, including improved sensitivity, rapid diagnosis, and enhanced prognosis, reduced transmission risk, and complementing PCR. Collaboration between healthcare professionals, radiologists, and infectious disease specialists can optimize the utilization of CT scanning for effective early detection of COVID-19 pneumonia.
