Abstract Synthetic metalloporphyrins proved to be highly efficient catalysts for a wide range of oxidation reactions of organic compounds. The immobilization of metalloporphyrins on solid supports can improve their catalytic performance. Furthermore, the solid support provides a higher stability for the catalyst and the possibility of recover and reuse. Due to the environmental concerns, there is considerable interest for preparing well designed natural polysaccharides to create high performance and environmentally friendly catalysts. In particular those of polysaccharides, chitosan (CTS) has attracted much attention owing to its low cost, non-toxicity, and abundant hydroxyl (-OH) and amine groups (-NH2), which can be used for the further functionalization. The objective of the present study is to prepare some of tetra aryl porphyrin transition metal complexes supported on chitosan to investigate their catalytic activities in the oxidative degradation of methylene blue dye in aqueous medium as well as the oxidative coupling reaction of 2-aminophenol, and study the biologica l activity of some of them. |
