Abstract

This study deals with a taxonomic study on the Egyptian taxa of order Odonata.
A taxonomic study of Egyptian fauna of Odonata was conducted based on all species collected during this study through field trips in 49 localities within 11 government from October 2020 to July 2023, as well as those preserved in the three main Egyptian Reference Collections and those recorded in literature. According to the current results:
 Our fauna comprises 48 species within 27 genera and eight families, four in each of the two suborders Anisoptera and Zygoptera, of which 44 were represented in the Egyptian Reference Collections, while four only recorded in literature.
 One species Anax speratus Hagen is recorded for the first time from Egypt according to the preserved specimens in CUC which were misidentified as Anax rutherfordi MacLachlan.
 Two species Mesocnemis robusta (Sélys) and Selysiothemis nigra (Vander Linden) were added according to literature and their occurrence confirmed through our field trips.
 During our field trips, 16 species were collected from which 10 species were collected for the first time from a specific locality/localities; Hemianax ephippiger Burmeister, 1839 (Cairo), Acisoma panorpoides Rambur, 1842 (Giza & Qalyubia), Brachythemis impartita (Karsch, 1890) (Alexandria & Gharbia), Diplacodes lefebvrii (Rambur, 1842) (South Sinai), Orthetrum sabina (Drury, 1773) (Fayoum & Gharbia), Selysiothemis nigra (Vander Linden, 1825) (Aswan), Pseudagrion niloticum Dumont, 1978 (Aswan), Pseudagrion nubicum Sélys, 1876 (Aswan), Pseudagrion torridum Sélys, 1876 (Aswan), and Mesocnemis robusta (Sélys, 1886) (Beni Suief).
 Four species were added to the Egyptian fauna according to the previous literature only ; Paragomphus sinaiticus (Morton), Orthetrum machadoi Longfield, Orthetrum brunneum (Fonscolombe) and Sympetrum sinaiticum Dumont.
 Eight species Agriocnemis pygmaea (Rambur), Orthetrum farinosum (Förster), Lestes viridis Vander Linden, Acisoma panorpoides ascalaphoides Rambur, Calopteryx splendens syriaca Rambur, Platycnemis latipes dealbata Sélys, Brachythemis leucosticta (Burmeister) and Pseudagrion acaciae Fórster were updated and replaced by their correct names according to Bridges (1994).
 Keys and diagnoses were given to all taxa. Type localities, synonyms, specimens examined, geographical distributions and colored plates for almost all species are provided.
