Abstract There was a notable disparity between 2D and 4D imaging in terms of identifying foetal central nervous system congenital malformations. However, 4D imaging is more precise, sensitive, and specific, and has a tendency to detect brain anomalies at an earlier stage compared to 2D ultrasound. Compared to 2D ultrasound (US), 4D US enhances diagnostic capabilities by providing more information during the examination of foetal abnormalities, particularly in visualising minor cranial defects and spina bifida. 4D ultrasound is a helpful addition to 2D ultrasound in prenatal diagnosis. In conclusion, the integration of 2D and 4D ultrasound can significantly enhance the accuracy of detecting foetal abnormalities. The widespread use of prenatal screening and prompt prenatal diagnosis helps to the decrease in the occurrence of neonatal birth defects. Pregnant women should avoid environmental teratogenic causes and high-risk variables that might cause foetal abnormalities. They should also prioritise prenatal and postnatal care to enhance the quality of the newborn population. |
