Abstract Sulfate pollution of water is an emerging problem from the discharging of high sulfate levels borne industrial wastewater into water bodies. The need for an eco-friendly and cost-effective method to decontaminate high concentrations of sulfate is needed. Bioremediation is considered as a secure economical, efficient, and suitable technology for treatment of contaminated water by using microorganisms (fungi, yeasts, bacteria, and algae). In the present study we isolate, screen, and identify some sulfur reducing, and sulfur oxidizing bacteria for desulfurization of sulfate. E.cloacae emr69 and E.cloacae emr70 were the most active SRB for bioreduction of sulfate in industrial wastewater treatment. The effect of different environmental factors on the bioreduction process was studied. |
