Abstract Central venous port devices are recommended for people who require continuous intravenous treatment. Although there is a chance of complications, port catheters (PCs) have several benefits, such as comfort and the ability to go on with regular activities. Aim: Evaluate the effect of implementing nursing guidelines on reducing late implanted portal catheters complications among chemotherapy patients at Minia Oncology Center. Sampling: A purposive sampling of 70 adult patients connected with portal catheter (PC). Tools: Two tools were used: The First Tool: Patient Health Assessment, included two parts. First Part: Patient Demographic Data Second Part: Patient’s Medical Data. Second Tool: Portal Catheter Complications Observation Checklist. The First Part: General Assessment included four main complications. Second Part: Grading Scale for Monitoring Extravasation. Results: Over three-quarters of the control group and over half of the intervention group were female. Renal disorders and hypertension were less common in the intervention group. the percentage of systemic infections had increased among control group and decreased among intervention group compared with control group. Conclusion: The current study’s conclusions showed that the intervention group’s percentage of late complications after implementing nursing guidelines was lower than that of the control group. Recommendations: Developing a simplified and comprehensive nursing guidelines booklet including basic instruction to avoid late complications for portal access catheter . .Keywords: Nursing Guidelines, Implanted Portal Catheters, Late Complications and Chemotherapy Patient. |
