Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease with a strong genetic predisposition. It involves mainly skin and, in some cases, joints or nails can be associated with variant
comorbidities of other systems. The exact etiology of psoriasis is not
clearly known. It is a complex immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disorder that is triggered by various risk factors in genetically susceptible individuals. The pathogenesis of psoriasis is complicated, which involves the interplay between keratinocytes, immune cells, and other skin-resident
cells. The interleukin IL-23/IL-17 pathogenic axis is the key to drive
psoriasis. The cross-talk among immune cells and keratinocytes creates
auto-inflammatory and pro-proliferative circuits mediated by cytokines that generate feed-forward loops driving inflammation.
