Abstract

The present study contacted to evaluate molecular and biochemical effect
of CAPE on DSS-induced ulcerative colitis in rats.
Animals
A 30 male albino rats weighing 150±10 g housed in plastic cages with
stainless steel covers at the National Cancer Institute Animal House, Cairo
University, Giza, Egypt. The animals were provided with standard diet and water
ad libitum as well as kept for 2 weeks to acclimatize.
Description of treatment groups
Group1: Normal control which received 3 mL of distilled water, orally for 2
weeks.
Group2: which received 10 mg/kg b.w. of Caffiec acid phenethyl ester orally
in distilled water one dose for 2 weeks.
Group3: Positive control which received 5% (w/v) Dextran sodium sulphate in
drinking water, for 2 weeks.
Group4: which received 5% (w/v) Dextran sodium sulphate in drinking water
+ Oral suspension of Caffiec acid phenethyl ester (10 mg/kg b.w.) in distilled
water one dose for 2 weeks.
Group5: which received 5% (w/v) ) Dextran sodium sulphate in drinking water
+ Oral suspension of Sulfasalazine (100 mg/kg.b.w.) in distilled water for 2
weeks.
Determining of disease activity index (DAI) was measured degree of
disease activity index (DAI) in experimental colitis.
