Abstract

AIFRS showed a higher incidence between COVID-19 patients during the COVID-19 epidemic raising the concern for studying the possible epidemiological factors accounting to this increased incidence and the possible prognostic factors to provide a guideline for both preventing and achieving a better prognosis in such serious disease. The study included patients with invasive fungal rhino-sinusitis admitted to tertiary and secondary centers in El-Gharbia governorate from the 1st of June to the 30th of December 2021 who were either coronavirus-positive or had recovered from coronavirus infection. A total of 69 patients were divided into two groups: group 1: A patient group of 23 patients with post COVID-19 AIFRS infection. group 2: Control group of 46 patients with COVID-19 infection without AIFRS infection. The patients’ presentation details, imaging findings, co-morbidities, management details, and follow-up information were obtained, recorded and analyzed. The study focused on the possible epidemiological factors affecting the incidence of AIFRS among the COVID-19 patients and the possible prognostic factors.
