Abstract

Our study showed that 7 consecutive sessions of rTMS employed as an add-on intervention to normal physical and drug therapies.
Our protocol of 5Hz frequency rTMS could be applied early after onset of ischemic stroke within 3 days of ischemic stroke safely with no serious side effects as seizers and it could significantly improve immediate clinical outcome in early stroke patients.
Our study also showed the significant improvement in cortical excitability and cortico-spinal transmission by applying 5Hz frequency rTMS to lesion side in early phase after ischemic stroke.
It could be applied during initial hospitalization of acute ischemic stroke patients for only about 9 minutes daily for only 7 days and be effective in improving motor weakness, not be time consuming or exhausting for the patients.
In our study we demonstrated that real rTMS could enhance recovery after acute ischemic stroke and that previous studies and ours indicate that rTMS is becoming an add-on therapy in acute ischemic stroke patients and we hope to deliver future studies to evaluate the maintained recovery effect of different rTMS treatment protocols.
