Abstract

Vestibular dysfunction has been considered a prognostic factor for recovery of hearing in SSNHL. Multiple studies proposed the use of vestibular mapping analysis to detect patterns of impairment of all five vestibular sensors. The resultant patterns of vestibular insult were utilized in our study to detail the prognosis of hearing recovery in SSNHL.
analysis of the pooled studies showed a significant number of patients in the groups of complete, partial and no hearing recovery after (C), (C+S), and (C+I) pattern. (C+S+I) pattern showed a significant percentage of patients in groups of partial and no hearing recovery only.
Results of reviewed studies, in agreement with analysis of pooled studies, concluded that the more extensive the vestibular insult, the poorer the prognosis of patient of SSNHL. So, performing comprehensive vestibular assessment for SSNHL cases is of great value to predict prognosis and to adjust realistic expectations.
