Abstract

Schiff base compounds have received considerable attention in the last decade, which plays a central role as chelating agents for a large numbers of metal ions, as they form a stable six-membered ring after complexation with a metal ion.
The present study involves preparation of a Schiff base ligand (H2L) derived from 1,4- diaminobenzene with 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (2:1 molar ratio) ligand and its complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II). Schiff base and their metal complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectroscopy, X-ray, IR, ’H NMR, electronic spectra, molar conductance magnetic susceptibility, thermogravimetric studies, the cytotoxic activity, molecular docking, Ultrastructure study and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for the ligand and its complexes against bacterial strains were determined and showed a dose-dependent manner for the antibacterial behavior.
Chapter 1, contains a literature survey includes the importance and structural chemistry of Schiff base compounds and their metal complexes. Chapter 2, involves materials used and the preparation of Schiff base of a Schiff base ligand (H2L) derived from bis-1,4-diaminobenzene with 2,4- dihydroxybenzaldehyde (2:1 molar ratio) ligand and its complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II) in addition to analytical techniques. Chapter 3 include on the results and discussion abstracted from this study.
