Abstract As various factors cause widening of facial pores due to the multifactorial nature of their pathogenesis, it is important to identify the cause before appropriate treatment. Oily facial skin caused by high sebum secretion, decreased skin elasticity around pores due to impairment of collagen and elastin, and increased pore volume due to thick hair require distinct treatments. If enlarged pores are mainly due to excessive sebum secretion then sebum production should be reduced using a topical or oral sebostatic agent, hormonal therapy, light or laser treatment, or botulinum toxin. If facial pores are mainly due to decreased skin elasticity then it should be treated using various laser treatments. If enlarged pores are combined with thick facial hair then modalities to remove hair might be useful. This study focused on treating enlarged pores caused by increased sebum production through intradermal injection of botulinum toxin, and enlarged pores that caused by decreased skin elasticity throught ablative CO2 fractional laser. The heat induced dermal remodelling after fractional CO2 laser treatment could result in collagen reproduction in the dermis which cause textural changes and shrinkage of pores, mostly due to perifollicular collagen formation, as well as the direct effects on the wall of the pore by tightening the surrounding dermal connective tissue. |
