Abstract Study Title: A Program Based on Some Virtual World Applications for Developing EFL Communicative Competence of Secondary School Students Author: Marwa E. A. El din Kharboush, Assistant Professor of Curriculum & EFL Instruction, Faculty of Education, Benha University Institution: Faculty of Education, Benha University, Egypt Year: 2024 ABSTRACT The present study investigated the impact of using Second Life applications (Second Life, Second Life Educational, and Second Life APK (Second Life version for Mobile and Android) applications) on the communicative competence of EFL secondary school students. The study adopted the quasi-experimental one- group pre-posttests design [The instruments and materials of the present study included an EFL communicative competence checklist, a pre and post EFL communicative competence tests, and an analytic rubric for scoring and analyzing students’ performance beside a program based on Second Life applications including a detailed description of the steps to be followed to develop EFL communicative competence]. Participants of this study were first year secondary school students (n=12) in one class at Al-Shoban Al-Muslemeen Secondary School, Benha Educational Administration at El-Qulubia Governorate during the first semester of the academic year 2022-2023. Findings of the study indicated a significant difference between the mean scores of the participants in the pre and post test of the EFL communicative competence components through the paired samples t-test. The results were in favor of the post test, at the (0.01) level of significance. It can be concluded that using some Second Life applications is effective in developing EFL communicative competence among first year secondary students.
