Abstract SUMMARY Medication administration errors (MAEs) are common health problems that threaten patient safety and raise mortality rates, duration of hospital stay, and cost of services. For nurses, medication competence is one of the most vital skills necessary for safe practice. Nurses are primarily responsible for safe medication administration. Nurses as the front-line health care providers who are responsible for administering medications, it is nurses‟ responsibility to ensure their knowledge up to date. In-depth knowledge of medicines includes pharmacodynamics, therapeutic use, side effects, adverse events, and appropriateness of administering the medication considering the patient‟s current response to treatment. So, identifying the need for nurses to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of pharmacology, this can contribute to reduce the occurrence of drug errors during medication management. Aim of the Study This study aims to assess the relationship between nurses’ pharmacological knowledge and medication administration errors. Research design: A descriptive correlation research design was used in this study. Setting: This study was conducted at two hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health and Population. Damanhour Chest and Kafr El Dawar General Hospitals, which are considered the main hospitals at El Beheira Governorate in delivering critical care.
