Abstract

Endometriosis is a very common gynecological condition affecting 10% of women of reproductive age and is often associated with severe and debilitatingchronic pelvic pain. It is characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissueoutside the uterine cavity, which induces chronic inflammation and fibrosis. It isusually found in the pelvis but frequently affects extra pelvic sites such as the diaphragm, lungs, brain, and skin ( et al., 2023).While the pathogenesis of the disease is not yet known, the retrograde menstruation theory has gained significant ground since it was first described in 1925.Diagnosis can be made definitively only upon visualisation at surgery. Common symptoms of endometriosis include painful menstruation, heavy menstrual bleeding, pain during intercourse, and infertility ( et al., 2022).In addition, with regard to recent literature, the non-modifiable risk factors for endometriosis include age, family history, education level, and the age of the menarche. Additionally, they mentioned that there was no association between lifestyle factors, such as alcohol or caffeine consumption or smoking, and the incidence of endometriosis (Ali et al., 2022).Different medical and surgical treatment modalities are available for the management of endometriosis. No cure has been found for endometriosis because recurrence is common even after recent medical management and the removal of lesions. Normalization of symptoms related to endometriosis during the early period of life and consequent progression to adhesive disease in the pelvis may reduce quality of life and productivity, resulting in subfertility, infertility, or both. Therefore, an interventional approach to detecting symptoms in early life and proper management of endometriosis are warranted to combat the progressive cascades of the disease. Early and effective intervention would also reduce the overall socioeconomic burden of the disease ( , 2021).The purpose of the present study was to assess the awareness of nonmedicalstudents of Menoufia University of endometriosis. A descriptive (cross-sectional) research design was utilized in carrying out the current study. It was conducted indifferent faculties at Menoufia University among non-medical students, namely the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Specific Education, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Mass Communication. the following recommendations are suggested: increasing the availability of health education programs for non-medical students to increase their public awareness and fundamental knowledge of endometriosis. Additionally, replication and further research using a larger sample size in a variety of college settings are recommended to generalize these findings.Acknowledgement:First and foremost, I feel always indebted to Allah, the most kind andthankful to all the deans of the mentioned faculties for allowing meto work with thestudents.
