Abstract Parenting is a major determinant of children8s development and life course outcomes. Strengthing the parenting role has the capacity to influence many diverse outcomes for both children and parents. Parents continue to learn how to practice the parenting role throughout their life time from the first time to be parents to the challenge of being a great grandparent in the later years of life. Parents differ considerably in their knowledge about child development and effective parenting practices, their self-efficacy, and their emotional resilience in undertaking the parenting role. Parents with greater knowledge about parenting strategies tended to use functional and effective parenting styles. |
