Abstract

Sepsis is
a global health issue associated with
increased morbidity and mortality worldwide. Approximately
50 million people are affected by sepsis worldwide , resulting
in 11 million deaths yearly. The prevalence of sepsis reported
among critical care patients in J ordan was 21%21%. Sepsis is
associated with adverse physiological , psychological , and
economic consequences. Sepsis can lead to multiple organ
dysfunction , such as acute renal failure , acute respiratory
distress syndrome , cardiac dysrhythmias (e.g. g., atrial
fi brillation)brillation), and disseminated intravascular coagulation
(Rababa , et al., 2022
Critical care nurses play a vital role in the early
assessment and management of sepsis. Thus , clinical
decision making is an essential component of professional
nursing care , as the decisions made by nurses affect the
quality of care provided. Effective clinical decision making
allows patients’ needs to be met , improving clinical
outcomes. Some factors include experience , hospital policy ,
working environment , and the nurse be d ratio (Breen , &
Rees , 2018 ).
