Abstract Neonatal sepsis is defined as a clinical syndrome with systemic signs and symptoms of infection within the first 4 weeks of life. Pathogenic bacteria can gain access to the blood stream, causing overwhelming infection without much localization (septicemia) or may be predominantly localized to the lungs (pneumonia) or the meninges (meningitis) or the urinary tract. Early onset sepsis is defined as sepsis presenting within 72 hours of birth |
