Abstract

Background The neonatal period is the riskiest period after birth. Globally, 2.4 million neonates died in the first month of life in 2020. Neonatal renal disorders are a heterogeneous group of congenital and acquired condition. That include many diseases as cystic kidney disease, acute kidney injury and acute renal failure.Therefore, prevention requires constant attention. The aim of the study was to assess nurses ’performance regarding care of neonates suffering from renal disorders. A descriptive design was utilized to conduct the study. A convenient sample composed of ninety nurses working at Neonatal Intensive Care Unites in Abo ALreash AL Monira Pediatric University Hospital and Shibin Al-Qanater General Hospital. Tools: Three tools were used to collect data as the following Predesigned Questionnaire sheet, Nurses Attitude Scale and Observational checklists. Results: The current study results revealed that, more than one third of studied nurses had unsatisfactory knowledge about renal disorders while, Two third of them had average and satisfactory knowledge.Also to most of them had positive attitudes regarding care of neonates suffering from renal disorders. In addition to, the studied nurses were competent in total level of their practices related to care of neonate suffering from renal disorders. Conclusion: There was positive correlation between total levels of the studied nurses’ knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding care of neonates suffering from renal disorders. Recommendation: Encourage nurses to improve and update their knowledge and practices through attending training, conferences and workshops about care of neonates suffering from renal disorders.
