Abstract Al-Mukalla city suffers from ineffective solid waste management since most developing nations seek for low-cost garbage disposal techniques that have negative environmental effects. Municipal solid waste (MSW) handling in Al-Mukalla city has blatantly resulted in environmental and health problems. Due to the open disposal and burning of MSW in Al Mukalla city, air pollution is one of the major environmental concerns. The Al-Galela open dumping and burning ground, three sites at varying distances from it, and a control site in Embekha, Al-Mukalla city were all examined for air pollutants in the current study. Results showed that all of the research area’s SO2, NO2, CO, and CO2 concentrations were greater than EPA standards.Open burning is the red-hot burning of any substance in which the burning byproducts are released directly into the surrounding air without passing via a pile or vent. Burning plastic and preserved wood also releases harmful compounds including dioxide and heavy metals. Environmental pollution continues to be one of the most severe problems facing the globe today. Smoke from the open burning of municipal solid trash contains air contaminants Contact with these contaminants can exacerbate existing heart and lung conditions and have other detrimental effects, including early death. Due to their interactions with soil structures these contaminants end up in plant or animal food chains. |
