Abstract Compare between retention of ball & socket and OT. Cap equator attachment used in mandibular over denture. Material and Methods: In this comparative study, twelve patients with only remaining two lower canines were selected from the out patient’s clinic of Cairo University, with ages ranges from (40-65) under certain patient selection criteria which are: • Their ridges were fairly well developed and were well covered by firm healthy mucosa • Free from any systemic or oral diseases especially those that might affect the retention • All patients had an angle class I maxillo-mandibular relationship • Patients with good oral hygiene and normal tongue size. Each Patient had received a mandibular tooth supported over denture with two attachments placed in their endodontically treated lower canines which classified into two groups: • group I patients: received “ball and socket” resilient attachment • group II patients: received “OT Cap equator” resilient attachment For each group of patients the following was done: • After visual , digital and radiographic examinations were accomplished • Endodontic therapy for both canines in each group • Reduction of the crown in height with all surface inclination to create dome shape leaving from 2 to 3 mm above the gingival margin • Metal copings were cemented to the abutments after making post, core and head of the attachment as a one unit • Before fixing the attachment, a pesso reamer was used to create a space for them inside the canal • Impressions were taken and conventional steps of denture construction were followed • The attachments were cemented inside canals • Direct pick-up technique used to fix the metal housing in the denture fitting surface Keywords: Mandibular Over Denture -Retentive Qualitie. |
