Abstract

Abstract
Background: Coronavirus disease-19 has widely spread all over the world since the beginning of 2020. Computed tomography, as a non-invasive imaging approach, can detect certain characteristic manifestations in the lung associated with Coronavirus disease-19. Therefore, it could serve as an effective way for early screening and diagnosis of Coronavirus disease-19. This study aimed to assess the sensitivity of non-contrast High-Resolution Computed tomography chest in the diagnosis of cases with Coronavirus disease-19 infection in correlation with the patients’ clinical picture and laboratory findings.
Results: The age of the patients was ranging from 23 to 85 years and with a mean ± SD of 59.79 ± 14.69; they were 24 females (38.1%) and 39 males (61.9%). There was a significant correlation between the typical findings of non-contrast Computed tomography chest and Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). 81% of patients with typical Computed tomography features showed positive PCR results. Also, a strong association was noted between typical Computed tomography features and fever and cough presented by 90.5% & 79.4% of patients respectively.
Conclusions: High-resolution non-contrast Computed tomography chest is an effective and sensitive non-invasive investigatory tool for diagnosis of Coronavirus disease-19 infection in suspected patients.
