Abstract Providing a web opening in RC beams results in a significant reduction in their torsion capacity. Thus, an efficient restoration technique must be found and implemented to restore the reduction in torsion capacity for such beams. This thesis aimed to introduce and validate a new technique to strengthen RC beams with web openings using Ultra High Performance Strain Hardening Cementitious Composites (UHP-SHCC) material. Accordingly, fourteen specimens were cast and tested under pure torsion conditions. The test parameters were the opening shape, the opening aspect Ratio (length/height), existing openings on an RC beam with or without flanges, the configuration of embedded reinforcements in the UHP-SHCC layer, and the thickness of the UHP-SHCC layer. The experimental results showed that the provided UHP-SHCC layer enabled the strengthened beams to exhibit superior performance in terms of ultimate capacity, toughness, and decreasing crack width. Finally, a comparison between the obtained experimental results and the predicted capacities was performed. The comparison revealed that the estimated torsion capacities are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental results. |
