Abstract Pain is caused by tissue damage that leads to inflammatory process, that is known as inflammatory pain. The hippocampus is one of the brain regions that undergoes structural and functional alterations as a result of peripheral inflammation. Curcumin is an herbal compound that has preventive and therapeutic effects. In this study, we used nanocurcumin (nCUR) instead of curcumin due to the low solubility and bioavailability of curcumin. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antinociceptive, and other actions. To evaluate these effects by performing behavioral, histological, biochemical, and molecular analyses, we investigated using adult male Sprague-Dawley rats injected with formalin to induce inflammatory pain. Peripheral injection of formalin causes inflammation by activating APE1 redox activity, followed by activating Nuclear Factor KAPPA-LIGHT-Chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathway. |
