Abstract

Endometrial cancer is the sixth most common malignancy in women and it is known to be a disease among postmenopausal women but there is rising in the number of endometrial cancers among premenopausal women. perimenopause represents progression from a women’s fertile life to climaterium with wide sexual hormones fluctuations until the onset of hypergonadotropic hypogonadic amenorrhea. Women undergo a series of physiological, affective, psychological, social and physical changes, clinically called perimenopausal syndrome.
Endometrial cancer is a cancer arises from the endometrium. Endometrial cancer is the result of the abnormal growth of cells has the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. The first sign is most often vaginal bleeding not associated with a menstrual period.
The present study aimed to evaluate effect of instructional guidelines on knowledge and attitudes of perimenopausal women regarding endometrial cancer. Thus, the following study may help in prevention of endometrial cancer and improving women’s knowledge and attitudes.
Study hypotheses
- Perimenopausal women would exhibit higher level of knowledge scores regarding endometrial cancer after one month from implementation of instructional guidelines.
- Perimenopausal women would exhibit positive attitudes after one month from implementation of instructional guidelines.
Study Setting
This study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Education, Benha University. The Faculty of Nursing consists of 4 main floors and 6 main departments (obstetric and gynecological nursing, medical and surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing, pediatric nursing and nursing administration), the faculty accreditation from the general authority for quality assurance on 8-25-2014. The college may strive to achieve its goals. The faculty of education consists of 5 main departments (department of mental health and special education, psychology, department of curricula and teaching methods, department of educational administration and comparative education, department of fundamentals of education).
Sampling
• Sample type: A convenient sample.
• Sample size: All administrated women at the Faculty of Nursing (30) and Faculty of Education (55) Benha University > 42 years during the time of data collection, (Total sample size 85). The information was obtained from the personnel affairs of the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Education, Benha University.
Tools of data collection
Two tools were used for data collection:-
Tool I - A self-administered questionnaire sheet: It was developed by the researcher after reviewing related literature (Delamater and Santoro, 2022; Ginesta et al., 2022) and written in Arabic language and consisted of three parts:
Part (1): Socio demographic characteristics of the studied women as (age, level of education, social status, residence, family income).
Part (2): Assessment history of studied women; it included (4 item) such as Menstrual and obstetric history of studied women; it included (10 item) such as (age of menarche, statues of menstruation , interval, duration, daily amount of menstrual blood, consistency of menstrual blood, problems during menstruation, medication during menstruation, number of pregnancies and birth. Birth control history of studied women which it included (4 item) included uses of contraceptive methods, duration, side effect of contraceptive and source of information about birth control method. Medical history of studied women; it included (6 item) such as history of chronic disease, early medical examinations, taking any medications, drug allergy, family history for alcohol abuses and family history for endometrial cancer. Surgical history of studied women, it included (2 item) such as past operation and any presence complications after the surgery.
